First Day of School Fashion

While getting the children ready for the first day of school, lets not forget about mama.  I’m sure like myself, the last time many of you experienced your own ‘first day of school’ was many years ago.   However, you still want to look fab for the children’s first day.  Not to worry, here are a few ways you can set a trend, making getting dressed to take the kids to school, beautiful and hassle-free.

If you can, why not sneak a few new items into the cart while shopping for the kids.   A new tee shirt in a fresh color instantly makes you look pulled together.  For a small amount of money you can update your look.  A new shirt can cost as little as 5 or 6 dollars, if you want and can spend more, why not?  A wrap dress is always a good investment.  You can wear it many different ways.  Dress it down with some simple wedge heels or dress it up for a date with a classic pair of pumps and some lots of jewelry.

Look Great at the Bus Stop

Annette, before

Where’s my lunch box?  Can I have pancakes for breakfast?  Did anyone see my math homework?  I think Spike wet the carpet.  Where are my keys?

Does this sound familiar?  I’m sure everyone’s home sounds like this on any given school day.  What with trying to get lunches made, husbands off to work and kids off to school, the start of your day can get very hectic.

New Look for Mom

haggardmom.jpg

 Dear Tiffany,

As I approach my 32nd birthday, I realize that I have no decent clothes.  I have recently, finally lost all of the baby weight.  Problem is, all the clothes that I had are what a mother in her 30’s should be wearing.  They either require too much upkeep (silk, ironing, delicate fabrics) or are just not appropriate when you are fending off a little one with dirty fingers (v-necks too low, low cut jeans now accentuate the stretch marks or worse, the butt crack etc.)  I used to shop at Ann Taylor, Express,  and the Limited.  What chain stores can I shop in now?  If I have a chain store, then I know, that the fashions there are what to look for elsewhere, and I can get the basics there.    I need help!  I am so tired of dressing like a college student, or worse, wearing out my Old Navy stand ins in just 2 wearings!  (The kid is hard on me, and hard on my clothes)

Dear Hotmama,

First of all congratulations on losing all of your baby weight.  We should all be as lucky.  I understand your wanting to creating a new ‘look’ now that you’re a mom, slim and trim.  Now is the perfect time to do that.  Right now you need a look that is easy and pulled together.   Finding your own style is key to perfecting your look.  Whether your style is classic, earthy, glam or funky there are a few items that will make getting dressed simple.

Kid Kouture

With the new school year quickly approaching, tweens and teens all over are thinking about what they are going to wear the first day of school.   Our choice of clothing says alot about us and most kids want to say that they are hip and cool.   In some ways, dressing is the only way that some kids are truly allowed to express themselves.  While as a parent, while we don’t want kids dressing overly sexy, we do need to recognize their need to make their own statement.

There are so many fashions available and at a low cost, I’m going to show you how to stretch your dollar and send your DS and DDs off to school looking fabulous.

Firstly, lets start with the basics.  Jeans, jeans, jeans are a must.  There are so many different styles and cuts.  Find out from your child what color and cut they like best and then invest in a few pairs.  Consider this, many students wear jeans everyday, so its wise to buy them when you find them on sale, especially because you know they will get a great deal of use out of them.

Bringing retro back

baby.gif

I love the way children were dressed years ago.  Most girls wore skirts or dresses to school everyday.  The skirts were at least knee length.  The boys went to school with their shirts and pants clean and neat.  Even jeans were starched and ironed to perfection.  While those days are long gone, there are still ways that we can ‘bring retro back’ to stay.  Continue Reading >>>

Remember When…

lucille.jpg

Lucille Ball, June Cleaver, Donna Reed and Gracie Allen (my favourite) were among the few lades who delighted us with their beautiful dresses, flawless makeup and sexy heels. Each week we saw these ladies keep their families together and keeping their homes immaculate while looking glamourous. Many decades later they continue to entertain us with their hijinks and keep us laughing with their comedic stylings. While I may not be much of an actress, pulling off the retro look of the 40’s and 50’s will prove much easier.

The Dress

The soft fabric perfectly drapes the body and the fitted waist creates a beautiful silhouette on any size or shape.
