Lipstick Tricks and Tips

As you know, lipstick is back in full force this fall. Wearing a rich, deep color is what makes every Happy Housewife’s lips look so kissable! Here are some tricks and tips to keep your pucker as gorgeous as it can be!

  • Never use a test lipstick on your lips. Instead, test lipstick on your fingertips. It’s a closer fit to your lips than the back of your hand.
  • Keep lipstick off your teeth with this trick. After applying lipstick, take your index finger and pop it in your mouth, then pull it out. The excess lipstick will lipstickcome off on your finger rather than your teeth.
  • The older you are, the ‘creamier’ your lips should look. Women over 50 should avoid matte or gloss and stick with a creamy lipstick.
  • Don’t throw out a lipstick you don’t like. You can create a great lip color by blending lipsticks you don’t like. You can also color in lips with a darker liner before applying a lipstick that’s too bright.
  • For ‘plump’ lips, apply liner just outside your natural lip line. Fill in your lips with color
  • Avoid orange or brown shades, including corals. They tend to make teeth appear yellow.
  • Camouflage yellowed teeth. To downplay a yellow cast to teeth, try lipsticks with a bluish undertone. Shades that work include plums, pinks, wines and violets.
  • Never use a dark liner with light lipstick. Defined lips are great, but make sure the liner matches the lipstick or gloss. Dark liner and light lips is tacky.

The Little Black Book of Style by Nina Garcia

A Fashion Director at Elle magazine, Nina Garcia knows trends –– from the return of oversized sunglasses, to the rise of cropped jackets, to the advent of all things pink –– she has seen it all. While some fashion trends are constantly changing, some just stay the same––the little black dress? Timeless. A pair of skinny jeans? Absolutely necessary. Those adorable sling back heels? Essential to any woman’s closet. Balancing the classics with the trends is what style is all about.

One reader comment said this:

“Being a shopoholic I really didn’t think I needed any “style” help. But after reading it I feel inspired and am digging deeper in my fashion arsenal everyday to make each outfit stand out.”
